- 1). Park the Buick, turn off the engine and remove the key from the ignition. Allow the Buick to sit for 20 minutes to give components time to cool down.
- 2). Open the hood and locate the battery. The battery is on the passenger side near the fuse box. The battery is a large square box with two terminals on the top of the unit.
- 3). Uninstall the battery support bar; the bar blocks access to the battery and must be moved. Use an extended socket wrench to loosen and remove the 13 mm bolt. The bolt is behind the fuse box and secures the bar in place. Move the bar away from the battery.
- 4). Disconnect the negative battery cable first. The negative cable is the black cable. Use an 8 mm socket to loosen the cable. Twist and pull the cable away from the battery. Place the cable to the side. Repeat this process for the positive battery cable, which is the red one.
- 5). Remove the bolt securing the battery in place. Loosen the bolt until it's removed using a 13 mm socket. The battery is now loose and ready to be removed. Lift the battery out of the vehicle, be sure to use both hands as batteries can weigh up to 70 lbs.
- 6). Place a replacement battery into place. Reinstall the securing bolt. Tighten the bolt to ensure the battery is secured in place. Connect the positive battery cable and tighten using the 8 mm socket wrench. Repeat the process for the negative cable.
- 7). Position the support bar back into place. Tighten the 13 mm bolt that secures the bar over the battery. The battery is now replaced and ready for use. Close the Buick hood.
