When we were still newlyweds, my husband had an idea about kayaking, he suggested that maybe we could enjoy it as a hobby. Excited and adventurous as I was, both my husband and I joined a training's class for those who wanted to learn kayaking. I am fond of being in the water, I like swimming and scuba diving. But I found out from the second class that kayaking was not for me. The session was about what to do if the boat turned over leaving you upside down. The thought of it already frightened me. Although, same as a duck that belongs in water, my husband was very in to it.
Every chance he'd get, he'd joined every kayaking trip. He loves the thrill of getting bumped with the rapids. We resolved that I won't go with him on the kayak but only leave him at the starting point and pick him later downstream. I was really OK with it. While waiting in the car surrounded by the woods, I could read a book or just relax, or I could get out of the car, go hiking and observe the local animals and greeneries along the way. Since my husband and I both agreed on that, we brought lunch, change of clothes and equipment. He also loves taking pictures like I do, so we also brought our cameras with us, including chargers, batteries and all the accessories that we could bring!
A buddy of his was also convinced by my husband to try kayaking as well. This friend was one of the most-not-so-outdoorsy- people I have ever known. But he wanted to try it and learn something new. He became skillful in handling the kayak, did well in the flipping and maneuvering. His first trip though was not successful. The kayak he was on turned upside down trapping him beneath the water near some branches and he couldn't free himself.
My husband was watching him all the time and when he noticed the boat he was in didn't flip back up immediately, that meant trouble, so my husband made his way under the water and pulled him up. Our friend was very thankful for my husband saving his life. Without hesitation, he placed an ad the following day selling his kayak. Back in the days when we go outdoors a lot, we always took pictures of our memorable moments.
As we became older and our activities changed, so are the developments in technology. We may have stopped with our kayaking adventures, but we still go out for a hike and do our photography. Years before, it became kind of a habit, however burdensome it may be, to bring all our photo equipments complete with all its accessories when we go out on a hike. Cellular phones, Blackberries, they're the fad or even a necessity nowadays. So instead of carrying extra batteries, we found the most wonderful thing. A solar panel, that's what it is. It's flexible and easy to carry. It is waterproof, durable and can be taken anywhere - from kayaking to high into the mountains and is great for camping. The solar panel's versatile nature has benefited many of our apparatuses such as cell phones, cameras, video recorders, even the car's battery. It's easy to put away and easy to bring along on our journeys. Now we're still using it for something else, when it could have been handy during our kayaking days.
This is one terrific invention!
