Lots of people do abdominal exercises to reduce belly fat.
However, a little known secret is that you can't spot reduce fat on places on your body.
You must reduce your overall body fat percentage and ab exercises do virtually nothing for this.
This is because they only work one muscle group and they have a limited range of motion.
People also spend a lot of time doing cardio exercises.
These are alright.
But, you can run a few miles and still have about 3,000 calories left to burn before you lose a single pound.
The best thing to do to get rid of your love handles is to do compound weight lifting exercises.
These have a number of advantages.
First, because muscle weighs more than fat it requires the body to work harder and, therefore, burn more fat throughout the day.
The other major benefit is that compound, or multi joint, exercises work multiple muscle groups at the same time and require a greater range of physical motion which is going to throw your body into a state of metabolic shock.
Can you see the difference between the clean and jerk which requires multiple muscle groups to lift a weight from the floor to over your head versus a mere sit up or even running? It requires a lot more effort from your body and will make your love handles disappear.
