Creating a distinctive girl's nursery is as easy as applying paint. There are many color schemes and design ideas to consider when researching painting ideas for a girl's nursery. Murals and patterns are popular painting options, but some parents may want a look that can grow with the child through the years. - Murals of mountains, beaches, farms or other landscapes are a nontraditional painting idea for a girl's nursery. Paint fantasy landscapes with fairies, unicorns and other mythical creatures for a more whimsical mural or incorporate landscapes related to popular childhood characters; for example, paint a map of the Hundred Acre Wood, home of the popular children's character Winnie the Pooh, on the walls.
- Decorate a girl's nursery using patterns that you can create using painter's tape, stencils and tools. Create multicolored stripes to draw the eye around the room. Stripes can be vertical or horizontal. Use stencils to create letters, words or symbols and/or decorative designs such as paisley, damask or floral. Use a combing tool to create fine evenly spaced lines along the walls.
Create an accent wall that contains a plaid or argyle design using multiple paint colors. Use painter's tape and measuring and angle tools to layout the design in pencil before applying the paint. - A basic black and white paint color palette is one that can grow with the child from birth into the teenage years. Paint the walls white using a flat or matte paint and paint the trim black, using a semi-gloss or gloss paint. The basic paint choices match a variety of furniture and accent colors and can serve as a canvas to add to later. Combine this look with murals or patterns as the child grows.
Faux paint finishes are also alternative looks that can grow with the child. Use neutral tones to create crackle paint or metallic finishes for an evergreen paint design.
