Social Phobia - Medication That Proves Useful

There are several medication options available for pacifying the symptoms of Social Phobia.
These medications have been proved highly useful for people suffering from social phobia and tend to face a lot of problems related to anxiety on a daily basis.
These medications are recommended to a patient after understanding the severity of phobia any other medication the patient currently uses and the general medical condition of the patients.
Here are some of the most common medication options: a) SSRIs: Also known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, these are a class of antidepressants and recommended by many experts as the number one choice medication to deal with generalized social phobia.
These drugs tend to elevate the neurotransmitter serotonin among many other effects.
Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil are most commonly recommended SSRIs.
The medication may come with general side effects such as headaches, insomnia, nausea, changes in sexual behavior.
These symptoms are only common for first few weeks and the body tends to adjusts to the drug.
The drug is not recommended to pregnant women.
The effectiveness of SSRIs in pediatric cases of depression has been found positive.
b) Anti anxiety agents: Ativan and Klonopin are the most suggested Anti anxiety agents.
These are also known to initiate anxiety management.
The researches have found positive results with the use of these two anti-anxiety agents.
They are known to be tolerated well by patients and proved extremely helpful in most cases.
One of the most common side effects of anti-anxiety agents is little tiredness during the initial stages.
It is recommended to go slowly when deciding to stop the medication.
You need to reduce the dose at a gradual pace over a period of three to four weeks.
c) MAOIs: These are known to be quite effective.
  In fact these medications are known to work best for any social anxiety disorder.
Parnat is known to be the most effective and work best in cases of social anxiety disorder.
However, these medications require certain food restrictions.
d) RIMAs: These are also known as the reversible MAOIs and available everywhere except the United States.
It is important for a patient to get a written prescription from a psychiatrist for RIMA.
Thereafter, it needs to be filled at a pharmacy in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
e) Tricycles antidepressants or TCAs: These may not be much of help for patients with social phobia.
However, buspirone may provide some help.
When looking for the best possible attention for the disorder, medications are known to be the most helpful option.
However, it is equally important to take advice from an experienced health care practitioner prior to taking any medication to obtain relief from Social Phobia symptoms.
