- 1). Look at your blueberry bush. You need to know what you want it to look like after it is pruned before you can begin.
- 2). Remove all broken or sick branches (also called canes).
- 3). Remove branches that are over seven years old. These are too old to be very productive.
- 4). Remove any branches that are touching. Your blueberry bush needs room to flower and bud.
- 5). Leave several mature branches for maximum blueberry production.
- 6). When you are finished, make sure the blueberry bush is small at the base, open enough in the center so none of the branches are touching, and has no dead branches.
