- 1). Press the tip of the pocket knife blade into the ridge of the seed (it looks like a hinge). Pry this hard outside shell off the dwarf lemon seed.
- 2). Remove the inner shell by gently slicing it with the blade of the pocket knife and peeling it off. Try not to cut into the flesh of the seed; if you do, the seed may be too damaged to germinate. A small scratch will not hurt it, but if you cut into the meat of the seed, that may damage it beyond repair.
- 3). Place the seed on a moist paper towel and slip it into a sealable plastic bag.
- 4). Place the bag in a warm place that receives full sunlight and wait for nine to 10 days. The seed should germinate within the 10-day period, first turning fully green during day two or three, and then slowly opening up.
- 5). Transplant your seedling into the pot of your choice, making sure that the cotyledonary leaves (the first two leaves) remain above the soil level.
