"Greased Lightning" is one of the most popular songs from the 1979 movie musical "Grease." Invoke this iconic movie when you host a "Greased Lightening" theme party. Set the scene with 1950s-styled items and the classic hit songs from the movie. - Play songs from the "Grease" soundtrack, but don't stop there. Create your own mix of music from the 1950s. Make sure the songs are popular enough that partygoers will recognize them. If you have a lot of money to spend, rent an actual doo-wop band to play songs throughout the evening.
- Give your "Greased Lightning" party an authentic look. Encourage guests to dress in 1950's-style clothing. Copy clothes from the movie. Guys wear leather coats, jeans, and slicked back hair, while the women wear ponytails and polka-dot dresses or full skirts. Women can also dress like the "pink ladies" in the film, with pink satin jackets and black cigarette pants. Decorate the party space with "Grease" props, such as 45 records and a large punch bowl from prom. Party stores carry paper cutout decorations for a sock hop-style event, or scour thrift stores for retro items to set the scene.
- Entertain your guests with party games. Make up games based on the movie. Play "Grease" charades, compete in a "Grease" trivia contest, or hold a karaoke showdown of "Grease" songs. Try old-fashioned games from the 1950s, like spin the bottle or bingo. Don't plan too many games, since people will want to spend some time socializing at the party.
