My daughter and I went to Knott's Berry farm in Anaheim, California on a Tuesday in June, 2012 to spend the day. I was glad that we went on Tuesday because there weren't a lot of people there.
The day was fun and the lines were short except one: the wooden roller coaster in, of all things, "Ghost Town." My daughter got into line and was gone for a long time, so I stood against the wooden fence daydreaming, and began to think about her leaving home for college.
Soon enough, I was getting misty-eyed and then great big tears. Luckily, I was wearing a wide-brimmed hat so didn't feel anyone would notice me wiping away tears. Then I felt someone touch my back, almost under my arm. I thought it was my daughter deciding not to go on the ride after all. So, trying to wipe my eyes before she could see, I didn't turn around the first time.
Then they touched my back again in the same spot and I turned to greet her, and then turned around the other way. No one was there -- or anywhere around me! I must have looked strange just turning back and forth to look around. It was a stunning experience. My heart beat a little faster, but I wasn't really too scared since it was broad daylight.
