A new hobby of mine is bird-watching.
I'm not exactly sure how I got into this, and I am by no means a die-hard bird watcher.
Or a bird-caller.
But I definitely enjoy "feeding the birds.
" A long, long time ago (about 13 years ago now...
wow I'm old!) one of the things my boyfriend (at that time) loved to do was go to this little pond and feed all of the geese.
We would buy a loaf of bread and feed all of the geese.
It was amazing how these geese would actually eat the bread out of our hands.
It's such a simple thing in life, feeding the birds, but it is actually a very fond memory that I shared with my (then) boyfriend.
Anyways, we both loved to feed the geese at this cute little pond in the park and I think we did it once a week.
Life got hectic after that time, and I didn't really take the time to feed the birds.
Until this past summer, I went out and bought some of those Suet cakes at our local Menards.
You wouldn't believe how many birds came and ate these Suet cakes up out of the Suet feeder.
It was a double Suet feeder, so there were 2 cakes in it.
Then I went out and bought a Finch feeder.
I have seen green finch and yellow finch eating of this thing, they loved it! At one time we had 3 yellow finches eating! I read somewhere that during the month of September, the hummingbirds were migrating through my area so it was a good time to make sure the hummingbird feeders were all full for them.
So I went out and bought one of those plastic hummingbird feeders, every morning throughout September I had a hummingbird come by and enjoy some of that hummingbird sugar water.
My back yard tree is now filled with; a finch feeder, double Suet feeder, a little bowl for regular bird food, another regular bird food holder and the hummingbird feeder.
Additionally, I have two bird baths (and let me tell you, it is really funny when you see them in there splashing all the water around!).
Sometimes, I swear there are a hundred birds hanging out in my yard.
I know this is a simple thing, but it is one of the very simple things in life that I enjoy.
It's part of nature, and most of the time I'm on the computer or the phone, so feeding my birds and watching them just puts a smile on my face.
