Tips to Stop Verbal Abuse

One of the common self-defense techniques that you could do is to use taser or stun gun against an attacker.
However, there are people who use the power of their words to hurt other people's feelings.
In this kind of scenario, you must also learn how to protect yourself.
Yes, stun gun, pepper spray and taser could help you against a physical assault but how about if the attacker targets your emotions through strong and harsh words coming out of his mouth.
The use of strong words to hurt the other person could be referred as verbal abuse.
Here are some of the effects of verbal abuse to a person: a.
Low self-esteem - when a person is being abused verbally, he usually feels very down.
He thinks very little of himself.
The hurtful words that were aimed at him stuck in his brain and plays in his head over and over.
For example, when a parent is being verbally abusive to her child saying that the child is very incompetent, dumb, and useless then the tendency is that the child will doubt his personality.
There would be part of him thinking if his parent was saying the truth that he is indeed incompetent, dumb and useless.
The ending is that, he will have very poor self-esteem thus making it hard for him to communicate to other people.

Anxiety - people who were abused verbally are more likely to experience adult anxiety over people who were not.
Sometimes the pain of hearing those hurtful words is worst than a slap or even a punch.
The thing with word is that once it is said, it cannot be taken back.
There is no medicine to cure the pain of the person who was abused verbally.

Depression - when the verbal abuse is continuously happening then it may lead to serious case of depression.
Human's mind could only take so much and hearing hurtful words repeatedly could be too much to bear.
It is definitely important to be aware of a case of verbal abuse and stop it immediately.
Here are tips to protect yourself against verbal abuse: 1.
Do not talk to people under the influence of alcohol or drugs - most of the times, people who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs do not know what they say and you cannot predict if they are going to say bad things to you.
So, it is best to just avoid these people.

Learn to air out your opinions - you should know how to explain yourself against people who are abusing you verbally.
If the person calls you stupid then you must not keep quiet instead, you should tell him why you are not stupid.

Take verbal self-defense course - it would be great to attend verbal self-defense course to know more ways on how to defend yourself against a verbal attack.
4.
Be prepared - always be prepared for the worse.
Remember that verbal abuse is usually followed by a violent streak.
So, be sure that you are ready for any physical confrontation.
You can enroll in a self-defense class such as Martial Arts, Taekwondo, and the like.
You can also have with you non-lethal weapons like tasers or stun guns which help disarm the perpetrator.
The tips mentioned in this article will help you know about necessary actions to take to defend yourself against verbal abuse.
You should never allow yourself to become a victim of harsh words.
