Create Little "Hat" with Gum Paste
This lovely bell shaped flower is wired into sprigs that add elegance to flower arrangements.
You will need:
Stephanotis created by rolling a half inch ball of gum paste and then creating a witch hat shape out of it on your smooth surface.
The brim of the hat should be flattened to approximately 1/8 of an inch.
Usr Cutter to Make Flower
Use a small five petal gum paste cutter to cut around the base of the flower. Simply slide the cutter over the “crown” of the hat.
Thin Petals with Fingers
Gently pinch the petals of the flower to thin them out and create the bell.Dust your fingers in cornstarch to prevent tearing and sticking.
Create Hollow in Flower
Use a star pointed gum paste tool to create the hollow in the center of the flower. Dip the tool in cornstarch to prevent sticking.
Wire Finished Flowers
Cut pieces of wire for each flower.Insert end of wire in the flowers and set aside in Styrofoam to dry.
Roll out small teardrop pieces as buds taking care to scale them correctly to the finished flowers.Cut wire for each bud and make a small loop in one end of the wires.Insert wire into bud and lightly score an "X" into the top of each bud with a paring knife.Set aside to dry.
Take four or five flowers and buds and twist the wires together to create a sprig. Make sure the buds are lower on the stem. Wrap the stem in flower tape to create a finished look. You can gently brush petal dust color into the center of the cone if you wish to make a variation.
