- Some actors are struggling artists, and they still need to keep up with the trends in the entertainment industry. Purchase a subscription to a magazine about movie productions and auditions, such as "Backstage" (see Resources). "Variety" and "Indie Slate" also are entertainment magazines that an actor can appreciate. Get a subscription to IMDb Pro so the actor can upload his head shot and learn about the latest entertainment news (see Resources). Alternatively, purchase a subscription for television and movie streaming so the actor can become inspired by the movies that other male actors have made.
- Pay for the actor to take acting classes with a respected professional actor. For instance, actor Anson Mount, who has eight films and nine television credits to his name, teaches acting lessons in New York City. Evaluate the acting teacher by his experience and credentials as well as his education. Even though some acting teachers might live outside the actor's location, arrange for the actor to receive training through an online video streaming session if possible.
- Take a film-making class and then offer to make a movie with the actor's dream role. One of the most difficult parts of being an actor can be auditioning and getting rejected. The actor should appreciate that he has a role in your project without having to audition. Then use a quality camera, such as a Canon 5D, so you get footage that looks nice for the actor's reel. The actor can use the footage as promotional materials that he sends in with his head shot. In addition, edit the actor's reel for him if you are familiar with a video editing software, such as Final Cut Pro.
- Buy tickets to a play or musical that has a strong male lead. For instance, "Phantom of the Opera" has the two strong male lead characters: Erik the Phantom and Raoul Vicomte de Chagny, the love interest. Give two tickets so the actor can take a friend or accompany him yourself. Alternatively, buy the actor tickets to or a DVD of an award-winning movie with a strong male lead. He can learn from actor Christian Bale's performance in "The Fighter," for example.
