- 1). Use the electric saw to cut the wood you need before you start. Cut two pieces of 2-inch by 4-inch plank at 32 inches long for the front and back of your base, 2 inches by 4 inches by 25.5 inches for the sides of the base, two pieces of 2-inch by 4-inch plank at 42.5 inches long for the A-frame, and two pieces of plywood, 24 inches by 32 inches, for the roof.
- 2). Form a box from the four base pieces (sides are 25.5 inches, front and back are 32 inches). This is the bottom of your nesting box. Use the 3-inch desk screws, two at each corner, to secure these boards.
- 3). Lay the A-frame boards on the ground, face up. Measure 23 inches up one board from one end and make a mark on the right edge of the board. Measure 23 inches up the board from the other end, and mark the opposite edge of the board face. Connect these two marks to draw a diagonal cutting line. After you've cut along this line, fit the two angled edges together to form an "A" and secure with 3-inch screws. Repeat with the other A-frame board. You should end with two A-shaped pieces.
- 4). Fit the A-frames to the front and back of your base, so that the upper corners of the A-frame boards mesh with the corners of the base boards. Secure with 3-inch screws.
- 5). Fit the two pieces of plywood to the A-frames to build the roof of your owl nesting box. Make sure the plywood pieces are flush and tight at their apex, and secure with 1 5/8-inch deck screws.
