- 1). Remove the seat vinyl using a staple remover. Take out the staples which hold the damaged motorcycle seat in place; or use a drill to remove any rivets if that was the method used to secure the seat.
- 2). Remove all the fabric and foam from your motorcycle seat.
- 3). Use old foam and fabric as the template for the new layers of foam. Old foam can be used as a rough template as well, and you should remember that the foam can be overlapped to provide a wider seat.
- 4). The base layer of foam should consist of closed cell foam and the top layer should be open cell foam - which is perfect for providing comfort during the hours of riding you will be doing on your new seat.
- 5). Shape the seat to accommodate your body by testing your sitting position. Use adhesive to hold the foam in place when you are happy with the shape.
- 6). Trace the seat fabric with a marker on the underside of the new vinyl, but add five inches to the seat area to ensure the fabric will adequately cover all of the foam.
- 7). Place new vinyl on top of your new foam. Turn the seat over and staple or rivet the new vinyl in place.
- 8). Cut away any excess fabric from your repair. A fabric knife will be suitable for this job, and will create a much neater finish.
