- 1). Wash your horse’s mane. Rinse and dry it and comb out any snarls and tangles. A dirty mane will be difficult to clip. It will also make the blades on the clippers blunt.
- 2). Put the halter on the horse. Secure your horse in a stall.
- 3). Move the halter to the horse’s neck and buckle it.
- 4). Stand near your horse’s neck and place one of your hands on the section between its ears. Use your non-dominant hand to hold the area. The horse should be calm before you start cutting the bridle path. Get someone to help you keep your horse calm. If there are some flies around the stall, use fly spray on the horse. This will prevent the horse from twitching when you are using the electric clippers on it.
- 5). Switch on the electric clippers and place them behind the protruding area between your horse’s ears.
- 6). Move the clippers from the front to the back along the bridle path. Cutting against the air growth will give you a closer cut. The length of hair that you cut off will vary depending on the discipline that your horse is competing in. Some riding disciplines require the hair to be short while others prefer long hair. The width of your bridle can be used to determine how much hair you cut off.
