- 1). Scan the non-digital photos to your computer. Print all of the photos you plan to use on plain white paper with a laser or inkjet printer.
- 2). Spray an even coat of water-based clear coating on the printed photos. When the photos are dry to the touch, spray a second coat. Allow the pictures to dry overnight, then cut the pictures out as desired.
- 3). Cut a bamboo skewer to 7-inches long, leaving the pointed end intact. Place a ruler on the bottom of a 6-inch-by-6-inch, 2-inch thick piece of foam and connect two corners with a diagonal line. Turn the ruler and connect the other two corners with a line, so there is an "X" on the foam square. Push the pointed end of the skewer through the midpoint of the X.
- 4). Place the foam square on a flat surface so that the bottom of the skewer is flush with the bottom of the foam and the tip sticks up 5 inches. Apply craft glue around the skewer where it meets the foam. Hold the square steady and push the foam ball straight down on top of the skewer. You should now have a sphere on a base.
- 5). Cover your work area with newspaper. Coat the foam ball and base with decoupage paste with a foam brush. Allow it to dry.
- 6). Apply another layer of decoupage paste to a section of the foam piece. Lay a cut-out picture over the paste and smooth it with your fingers to remove any air bubbles. Brush a coat of paste on top of the picture. Add more pictures, one section at a time, overlapping them slightly. No foam should be visible when the collage is finished.
- 7). Pop any air bubbles that form with a straight pin as the centerpiece dries. Allow the centerpiece to dry overnight.
