- Slime mold is a fungus that feeds on soil organisms. This mold is most common during periods of rainy, humid weather and occurs on mulch, weeds, grass and flowers. Slime molds can also develop on driveways and sidewalks.
- Slime mold is often white, yellow or orange and can range from a few inches to several feet in diameter. Flowerbeds affected by slime mold do not suffer serious adverse effects. Occasionally, a heavy covering of slime mold can cause plants to yellow.
- Chemical control of slime mold is not necessary, as it usually disappears on its own. Homeowners who wish to clean slime mold from their flowerbed can do so by raking the mold from affected plants.
