Best friends and sisters both tend to share close bonds with one another. These special relationships call for personalized gifts that convey the heart and appreciation of the gift-giver. Gifts that call to mind shared memories or encourage the individual interests of a best friend or a sister are sure to leave a lasting, meaningful impression upon the recipient. - Sharing a journal can be a great way for friends and sisters to deepen their relationships.woman writing in journal image by jimcox40 from Fotolia.com
Buy a thick journal filled with lined pages and a nice pen for as many friends as you would like to share the journal with. For an added touch of personality, choose pens that each contain a different color of ink. If the covers of the journal are blank, begin to decorate them by writing out an inspirational quote surrounded by a hand-drawn border or by cutting out interesting or funny magazine or newspaper ads that you can glue to the covers of the journal. Take care to leave plenty of spare room for your best friends to add their creative, decorative touches to the journal. Then, pass or mail the journal back and forth in a predetermined rotation and share in each other's daily lives by reading everyone's journal entries and adding your own when it is your turn. Your best friends will enjoy the gift of regularly getting mail, as well as the gift of reading your words of support and encouragement. Sisters can also pass or mail a journal, particularly if they no longer live near one another. The journal entries will be a nice way to share family memories, reminisce and create an heirloom that can someday be shared with daughters and nieces. - Gift baskets that are assembled from scratch can be meaningful gifts.basket of washclothes image by Betty Oesterling from Fotolia.com
Assemble a gift basket tailored to your sister or best friend's varying interests. If she enjoys scrapbooking, poetry and letter-writing, include a pack of scrapbooking paper, some stickers and craft glue, a collection of poetry she does not yet own and a stationery set with a nice pen. If she prefers hiking, building model cars and camping, include a new water bottle, sunscreen lotion and bug spray, a model kit---which you can purchase at many craft stores---a book of scary stories to be told around a campfire and the makings of the popular camp dessert s'mores---marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate bars. Use tissue paper in her favorite colors as filler between items in the basket, and include a card. - This gift idea works well for sisters who want to share recipes that they made together growing up as well as new recipes they discover as they raise their individual families as adults. It is also fitting for best friends who wish to have something to remember baking and dinner parties by. Cut scrapbook paper that features attractive designs to fit inside of standard page protectors. Then, type or neatly write each recipe on pieces of colored cardstock and paste them onto the scrapbooking pages. Embellish each page with photos of the recipes as you and your best friends or sisters make them. As the Scrapbook Papers and More website suggests, "You may also want to include a bit of history in your scrapbook, either at the beginning or dispersed throughout the book. Here, you might explain the origin of each recipe, or a short story about why it has become a family favorite. You can add elements, such as a shopping list for each recipe or measurement charts and converters to go in the back." Place each decorated page inside of a page protector, and arrange all of the pages in a three-ring binder. Slip a personalized, decorated title page in the front of the binder as a finishing touch.
