- 1). Measure the length of the post to be replaced, add 1/4 inch to that and cut the same kind of post at that length.
- 2). Add 12 inches to the 2x4 measurement, cut, place the corner of the 2x4 against the beam near the post and wedge the bottom against the ground/floor. Pound the bottom of the 2x4 towards the post to raise the beam up about 1/2 inch.
- 3). Remove the old post and place the new post in place.
Knock out the 2x4.
Tap the post into final place using a level to make it plumb.
Toenail the 16d nails into the beam and floor.
