Wedding gifts often take the form of cash or a check folded into an envelope along with a heartfelt card. A card box set on the gift table offers guests a place to put their cards and an easy way to transport the cards home or to a secure storage location. It also allows you to display a little creativity and enhance the summer timing of the wedding. - Antique bird cages tend to be small yet ornate.bird cage image by Photosani from Fotolia.com
Buy an antique bird cage and paint it a summery color, like sunny yellow or mint ice cream green. (If the peeling, patchy paint look appeals to you in a shabby-chic sort of way, leave it alone.) Attach a card that says "Card Box" to one of the cage bars with a wooden clothespin and display the cage on the gift table. You can also purchase a vintage-styled, bird-cage-style card box made specifically for weddings, like the "Lillian Rose" brand card box displayed on Gifts.com. - An old milk-bottle holder would also work.Crated bottles image by Crisps85 from Fotolia.com
Set out a small fruit box, such as the kind you buy at the grocery store filled with several pounds of clementines. Affix vintage fruit labels (or printed reproductions of them) to the ends if the box comes without decoration. Sweet, fresh fruit, like clementines, are a staple summer snack, so make use of the box they come in for your summer wedding. - Buckets are available in a rainbow of colors.bucket image by MLProject from Fotolia.com
Collect cards in a metal bucket–either the plain galvanized buckets often used in gardens to hold flowers or in a child's antique beach pail. Skip the brightly colored plastic pails you can pick up at discount stores. While they are bright and cheerful, they also look cheap and could even be construed as "tacky." Antique beach pails provide a perfect balance of quirk, charm, color, dignity, and summer beach spirit.
Alternately, if you're dead set on collecting the cards in an actual box, a GetMarried.com official blog post about card boxes displays several original options, from card boxes that look like stacks of wrapped presents to boxes that look like cakes to boxes that hold photos and lock to prevent card theft.
