  South Africa has a thriving skateboarding culture with stores, magazines and events that fuel the appetite of skating enthusiasts. Groups such as the National Skateboarding Association of South Africa work to organize skaters and encourage the creation of new skating parks. Wave House

• Wave House is South Africa's largest skate park and it is located in Durban, South Africa. It is a 4,000 square meter park and was designed by 10-time world skating champion and professional skate boarder, Tony Hawk. Hawk was present for the commemoration of the park on its opening day and was the first to skate on it to the glee of thousands of fans. Wave House offers many different courses, including the Kidney Bowl, the Mini Ramp, the Pro Street Course, the Snake Run and the Vert Ramp. Skating instructors are also available to teach beginners the fundamentals of the sport.

Durban Beachfront Skate Park

• Located on the beach, the Durban Beachfront Skate Park is a popular skating park that hosts the Vodacom Winterslam every year. The park also hosts a Girls Go Skate day in an effort to encourage more young girls and ladies to take up skateboarding as a sport. The park features concrete ramps and banks as obstacles, and it has rails, a mini bowl area, stairs, hips and many grind ledges. The park is free to use.

Vert Ramp at Base 3

• Base 3 is a water park situated in Midrand, Johannesburg. On the premises is a soon-to-be opened skating ramp called the Vert Ramp. The ramp is scheduled to open on July 17, 2010, and, after the opening day, it will require a fee to use. The Vert Ramp is 12.5 feet high and was designed by Jacques Allison. The park owners do not provide supervision of ramp users, and all skaters must sign an indemnity agreement to use the ramp.

Boogaloos Skate Park

• The Boogaloos Skate Park is a smoke-free, drug-free and alcohol-free park where users are supervised by adults. Situated within the Brightwater Commons shopping center in Randburg, it was designed by world-class skate park designers. The park features skate lounges, PS2 game stations and satellite television, among other amenities. It is an ideal location for birthday parties and other activities.
