How Hypnosis Can Be Used in the Treatment of Snoring

Generally, it is not that well known that hypnosis can be used to cure snoring.
The common perception amongst many people is that hypnosis is just a scam, especially for those people whose only encounter with the practice is on the stage.
If fact, within alternative medicine, hypnotherapy has been shown to highly successful in treating a number of ailments.
The better known treatments are in relation to smoking, weight loss and self-esteem.
More recently, however, it has been shown to be highly successful in treating people who snore.
Unlike other treatments, hypnotherapy aims to treat the person's subconscious in order to address the presenting problem.
This is achieved by encouraging the client to reach a relaxed state in which they are more open to suggestion so that the required change may be brought about.
Typically the therapist will tap into the person's imagination by using such devices as story telling, symbolism and metaphor.
Many other psychological therapies tend to be a long term intervention.
However, this is not the case with hypnotherapy where the required changes can often start to be seen within quite a short time period.
The majority of people are able to be hypnotized, but it is true that some people are easier to hypnotize than other.
It is not possible to hypnotize someone who does not want to be, so the person needs to be completely willing to be hypnotized and have a degree of trust in the therapist.
With regard to treatment for snoring, the reasons for this taking place is due to the way in which we breathe when we are asleep and the fact that muscles around the airway relax which causes vibrations in the soft tissues at the back of the throat.
Hypnosis can be used to help people to hold the muscles around the airway more taut to keep the flow of air freer in order to avoid such vibrations from occurring.
This needs to be done by tapping into the subconscious as we are obviously asleep when we snore.
This treatment can be administered by a trained hypnotherapist, or alternatively, CD's and MP3 downloads are also available for a fraction of the cost and have been shown to be highly effective.
