- 1). Dig out an area the size of the pit you want. Any size will work, but if you want to use the pit as a grill, make sure you can find a grate that fits.
- 2). Line the outside of the pit with cinder blocks or large rocks. This will help keep the fire contained. Using blocks will result in a square or rectangular pit, while rocks can be made into any shape.
- 3). Clear anything burnable from around your pit. You don't want stray embers causing a larger fire.
- 4). Build a fire, grab a chair and enjoy your new fire pit.
