- 1). Start with your opponent wrapped in your full guard. He is on his knees in front of you. You are on your back with your legs on both sides of him. Your ankles are hooked together squeezing your knees together.
- 2). Entice your opponent to come forward. He will probably be trying to punch you in the head. A typical response is to hold his upper body tight to you so he can't swing. Allow your opponent to slide his arms between you. He will think he is getting leverage to push up so he can swing at you. In reality, you are gaining access to his arms for the move to his back.
- 3). Grab one of your opponent's arms. Place your same side arm on his elbow while grabbing his wrist with your opposite-side hand. For example, if you are grabbing his right arm, seize his elbow with your left hand and his wrist with your right hand. Push your opponent's hand down so that his forearm is across your chest.
- 4). Release your full guard and push your opponent back with your hips. Do this by unhooking your feet then lunging your hips into your opponent's hips. You need him to slide backward slightly to take the pressure off of his arm.
- 5). Immediately push and pull your opponent's arm to the side. Timing is important here. You only have a split second between your hip push and your opponent's weight falling back on you. During that split second, push his elbow across his body as you pull his wrist the same direction. Do this with enough force to turn your opponent on his side.
- 6). Throw your arm and leg over your opponent. Use your arm that just pushed his elbow and your leg on the same side. Pull yourself around until you are directly behind your opponent.
- 7). Slip the hooks in. Hook both feet between your opponent's legs. At the same time, wrap your arms around him. You now have back control. If you can get an arm around your opponent's neck, you can perform the rear naked choke. When you do this with the hooks in, there is virtually no way for your opponent to escape.
