- 1). Remove the lid from the plastic drink bottle and drill a hole in the center of it. Drill a ring of holes around this first one so that you form one large hole.
- 2). Take the paper towel, dampen it with water and fold it into a pad that fits inside the larger, deeper bottle lid. Push the damp paper pad into the bottom of the larger lid, and place the smaller lid (with the hole) on top it in the center. The damp paper acts as a spacer between the larger lid and smaller lid.
- 3). Apply four large blobs of hot glue between the inner cap and outer cap to join them together at four points. Don’t worry about getting glue on the damp paper towel in the base as you will remove the paper when the glue is dry. When the first blobs of glue are dry, add more glue to each to make them larger, but be sure to leave space between the four blobs. The larger cap serves as a reservoir for the hummingbird nectar so the birds need to be able to reach it.
- 4). Remove the paper towel pad from in between the two caps. You will probably have to tear it off the glue blobs. Using water to rub the paper off the glue may help. Make sure the inner, smaller lid is securely suspended inside the outer, larger lid by the glue blobs. Add more glue if you need to.
- 5). Screw the eye hook into the base of the plastic bottle so that you can hang it. Screw the bottle into the inner cap. If you are adding plastic or fabric flowers, glue them around the outer lid at the base of the hummingbird feeder.
