- 1). Hook up the mini disc to the computer. Plug one end of the patch cord into the headphone jack on the computer and the other end into the input jack on the mini disc device. This will channel all computer sounds directly into the mini disc, but you won't be able to hear them while you're working.
- 2). Close any computer programs that may make noise and open your CD media player program. All sounds on the computer will be channeled directly into the mini disc device, though ambient sounds will not be picked up.
- 3). Insert the CD and open your media playing software. If the program's settings aren't already configured to play the CDs while showing a timer for each track, set it to do so. If the player does not show a progress bar indicating when each track is about to finish, play through the CD and make a note of how long each track is, to the second.
- 4). Begin recording on the Mini Disk. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to start the disc recording; on most units, this will be a sliding button on the front of the player.
- 5). Start the CD immediately after you start the mini disk recording.
- 6). Watch the display on the media player to be ready for the moment when each track changes over to the next.
- 7). Hit the "track" button on the mini disc at each point where the tracks on the CD change. Press only once. This will create a track mark on the recording, allowing you to skip to that point as you can with a CD.
- 8). Stop the mini disc when the CD is done playing.
