Hollister, CA Chinese Drugs Pulled Off The Market: View From A Private Duty Caregiver Serving Carmel, Carmel Valley, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Gilroy, Gonzalez, Greenfield, Hollister, King City, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Salinas, San Juan Bautista, Seaside And Soledad California 13 different drugs were pulled off the market by Chinese regulators after the capsules were believed to have contained excessive amounts of chromium levels. The chromium was introduced into the drugs during a process where leather was tanned and used with the raw materials. Chromium can be carcinogenic with frequent exposure, reports the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It's not clear if any of the pills, two antibiotics and 11 herbal remedies, made it into the U.S. market. Pfizer Inc., one of a number of pharmaceutical companies that produces drugs in China, said they weren't impacted. However, it's common knowledge that many U.S. drug manufacturers have either shipped production overseas or have been buying raw ingredients from China. There have already been a number of instances where bad drugs have made it into the U.S., and some have been lethal. My physician was telling me he is concerned about many herbal remedies, because even if they are produced in the U.S., it's not always clear where the ingredients came from. Clearly we need more resources at the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to police both foreign drug manufacturing plants and spot check ingredients that are going into drugs, both prescriptions and over-the-counter medications. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304299304577347563418936068.htmlAbout Richard Kuehn & Family inHome Caregiving of Monterey:After more than a decade of caregiving, both in a professional environment and for a 97 year old family member I was dissatisfied with service from local caregiving agencies.
