General Motors equipped the 2006 Silverado 2500HD as the heavy-duty version of the three-quarter-ton full-size Silverado pickup truck from its Chevrolet division. Chevrolet splits the 2500HD into the Work Truck, the LS, the LT1, the LT2 and the LT3 trim lines. Each trim has several versions based on drivetrain (rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive), cab size (regular, extended and crew cab) and bed size (regular and long bed).

    Engine, Transmission and Performance

    • The 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD features a standard 6-liter, 16-overhead valve (OHV) V-8 gasoline engine with a 4.00-by-3.62-inch bore and stroke and a 9.4-to-1 compression ratio. This powerplant produces 300 horsepower at 4,400 rpm and 360 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. Additionally, General Motors ouftitted the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD with engine options of a 6-liter compressed natural gas V-8, an 8.1-liter gasoline V-8, and two different 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V-8s.

The standard transmission of the '06 Silverado 2500HD is a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual, with a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox as alternatives. Depending on trim combination, the maximum towing capacity of the truck is 14,600 to 16,100 lbs.

    Interior Capacity and Dimensions

    • Chevrolet designed the 2006 Silverado 2500HD truck as a three-, five- or six-seat vehicle. Its front space consists of 41 inches of headroom, 41.3 inches of legroom, 65.2 inches of shoulder room and 61.4 inches of hip room. The five- and six-seaters -- the trims with extended/crew cabs and/or long beds -- have additional rear space that provides 38.4 or 39 inches of head room, 33.7 or 39.1 inches of legroom, 65.1 or 66.3 inches of shoulder room and 61.5 or 62.9 inches of hip room.

    Exterior Dimensions and Curb Weight

    • Apart from its regular Work Truck, LS and LTI trims, which are two-door trucks, the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD has four doors. Although all trim combinations share the same 79.7-inch width, the length and height varies, ranging from 133 to 167 inches long and 76 to 77 inches tall. The curb weight range is from 5,300 to 6,100 lbs.
