Singapore is renowned for being a clean and beautiful garden city.
In order to keep this status, our government has imposed strict rules so that visitors will be comfortable when touring this country.
Don'ts 1.
Do not attempt to smuggle or bring in drugs into the country.
Anyone caught doing that will be sentenced to DEATH.
2.
Do not chew gum as gum has been banned in Singapore.
I was rather sad when this law was imposed as I really like to chew on gum.
3.
Do not bring in food into our MRT (Mass Rapid Transport).
Offenders will be fined.
A Japanese friend of mine was actually fined S$200 when she was caught eating a hamburger at the station's platform.
4.
Don't smoke in non-smoking places.
Singapore has designated many restaurants, shops and offices to be smoke free.
This is really great news for non-smokers like me, but not so much for smokers and worst for heavy smokers.
5.
Don't throw rubbish, not even tissue, on the floor.
If caught, you will be fined.
Rubbish bins are readily available all over the island and people are encouraged to throw rubbish into the bins and not on the floors.
6.
If you are renting a car in Singapore, don't drive on the right hand side of the road.
Singapore drives on the left hand side as we were once a British colony.
7.
You do not need to give tips when dining in Singapore.
It is not compulsory but you may tip the staff if you are very satisfied with their service.
8.
When you are invited to a friend's house, don't enter the house with your shoes on.
Dos 1.
Do try the king of fruits "Durian" when you are in Singapore.
An unforgettable experience it will be.
2.
Do visit the world's first Night Safari.
3.
Do have coins with you when you need to use the public toilet.
Some public toilets in the local food centers or malls require you to pay 10 or 20 cents to utilize it.
4.
Do check whether toilet paper is installed before you do your "business".
Don't be caught in a situation and there isn't anybody to help you.
5.
Do learn a few Singlish before you leave.
Singlish is uniquely Singapore and easy to learn.
Just add lah at the end of a sentence.
For example, I don't know lah; Don't ask me lah.
6.
Do try our famous chili crab at any seafood restaurants in Singapore.
7.
Do bring an umbrella with you as Singapore tends to have sudden rain especially during the monsoon seasons.
8.
When you see a queue in the toilet, usually ladies toilet, do queue and not go straight to the cubicle.
You will be stared at by the people queuing.
