To celebrate Father's Day, I would like to share 5 tips that'll help you become an awesome dad! Be the Protector As a dad, one of our main responsibilities is to protect our children.
Not only must we do our best to ensure their safety but also their future.
To illustrate, you could have your home child-proof, along with teaching them proper safety habits by having them buckle up every time they're in a motor vehicle.
Of course, financial protection is also important, hence why you need to have life insurance, an emergency fund, a will and trust, etc.
By protecting your assets, you're essentially protecting your child's future.
Always Put Their Interests First One of the most difficult things to do is to put your child's interest before yours.
For most new parents, it's very hard to put everything that they've come to enjoy and love on the backburner.
This means that if you drink or smoke, you need to work on quitting since both are not good for them.
Remember, you can't take care of them if you're not taking care of yourself first (i.
e.
eating healthy, exercising, etc.
).
Needless to say, you don't need to give up your entire life when you become a dad.
Everyone needs some alone time and being a father is no different.
So while it's important to put your child's interest first, it's also vital that you give yourself a little time every once in awhile to get out with friends.
By allocating a day a week to doing something healthy, like playing a round of golf with friends, you'll lead a more balanced life which will ultimately help you become a better dad.
Spend Quality Time and Teach Them Everything You Can In order to teach your children, you must spend as much time with them as possible.
So when you get home from work and are tired, don't just relax since this is the only time that you could spend with your child during the weekdays.
Instead, use this spare time to find out how their day went, what they've learned, and you could also tell them how your day went and what you've learned.
I also highly recommend that you use this time to teach them important life skills, such as reading, writing, math, finances, self-esteem, confidence, entrepreneurship, etc.
Turn it into a game and more importantly, make it fun since every child wants to play and have a good time.
Weekends are no different.
If anything, you should spend more time with them on the weekend because most people are not working during this time.
You could take a family trip together by going to the park or enjoy a nice relaxing picnic at the beach.
Remember, the thing that kids want most from their dads is their time!!! Take Care of Mom Things that were traditionally considered as "mommy duties" are not just for moms anymore.
Nowadays, dads must also share the responsibilities - from feeding, changing diapers, bathing, to even rocking your child to sleep in the middle of the night.
By sharing the responsibilities, you not only take care of mom and help her out tremendously but it's also the perfect time to bond with your child.
So rather than complaining that you have to help out during a sports game, you should jump at the chance to do these things because that's how you build a life-long relationship with your children.
Of course, taking care of mom is not limited to just these duties.
You could also give her a massage; help out with house chores; or take mom out on a date to show her how much you appreciate all that she's done.
How you treat their mother not only affects their self-esteem but also how they treat themselves and other women.
With this in mind, you should never fight with her in front of them, nor should you contradict mom because that just leads to more confusion.
Instead, do your best to be kind, respectful, and loving of their mother and ALWAYS work as a team.
Unconditional Love Most importantly, dads must show their children affection and unconditional love.
Kids require physical contact from both parents so it's crucial that you snuggle with them, hug them, and love them unconditionally.
In the words of William Shakespeare...
"It is a wise father that knows his own child.
" I have no doubt that by following all of the tips listed above, you'll not only know your child better but also become a great dad in parallel and create many fond memories that'll last a lifetime.
