- 1). Spray the surface to be painted with a pressure washer to remove dirt, debris, and any surface contaminants that may inhibit the paint's ability to stick to the building's surface. Allow the surface to dry.
- 2). Evaluate the weather to ensure you're painting when temperatures are above 50 degrees and below 85 degrees. Temperatures outside this range may cause the paint to roll on too thick or become runny, potentially spilling onto areas that do not need paint, like windows. Always paint the west side of a building in the mornings and the eastern in the evening to avoid direct sunlight on the painting surface.
- 3). Purchase a latex paint that meets commercial environmental requirements for your local building code. Additionally, you can mix additives into the paint that speed drying time, protect the paint from UV sun damage, etc. Choose and add any additives you'd like mixed with the paint at the paint supplier's mix station.
- 4). Pour paint into the paint tray. Roll your paint roller in the paint tray and roll the paint onto the building in vertical or horizontal directions. Apply even pressure on the roller and do not over reach. This will ensure that you apply the paint evenly and avoid over application or lap marks.
- 5). Dip the rags in water to immediately rinse paint from any unwanted surfaces like windows, doors or different color sections.
- 6). Apply a second coat after allowing the first to dry, ensuring the surface is fully covered and sealed.
