- 1). Disconnect the battery cables from the battery. Remove the negative battery cable first (the black cable) to prevent being shocked. Leave the cables disconnected for a few minutes to clear the engine codes. Connect the black cable first when reconnecting the battery.
- 2). Crank the engine. Drive the Dodge forward a few feet, in reverse a few feet, then turn the engine off; repeat three times. Crank for a fourth time and note the "Check engine" light. The codes should be cleared, according to Allpar.com.
- 3). Use a SCAN tool to clear codes, as an alternative. Plug the SCAN cable into the Assembly Line Diagnostic Link (ALDL), located under the dash. The ALDL is a small, 12-port electrical terminal and may have a plastic cover. Pull up the engine's codes with the SCAN tool. Select the option to the clear the codes.
