If you'd like to submit your photos of an Arizona wildfire, here is how you do it.
In June 2013 the Yarnell Hill Wildfire became the worst fire incident recorded in Arizona's history. It wasn't that it burned the most acres (the Wallow Fire in 2011 burned 538,000 acres), but rather that it claimed the most lives. Nineteen brave firefighters from Prescott's Granite Mountain Hot Shots lost their lives in the Yarnell Hill fire.
Here is a timeline of the events relating to that fire that I recorded in updates on this website:
The Yarnell Hill Fire started on June 28, 2013, caused by lightning.
June 30: At about 7 p.m. it was reported that more than 20 firefighters have been injured fighting this blaze. Yarnell and Peeples Valley are being evacuated. The Double A Bar Ranch, Buckhorn, and Model Creek areas are being evacuated. 150 residences are threatened.
June 30: It is being reported that 19 Prescott firefighters have lost their lives fighting this fire. Donations for their families are being collected.
July 1: the 20th member of the firefighting crew where 19 perished in the fire is reported to be in the hospital. Number of firefighters working this blaze: 400.
July 2: An independent official investigation into the deaths of the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots is scheduled to begin today.
July 2: The lone surviving member of the Granite Mountain Hotshots crew has now been identified as Brendan McDonough, 21, of Prescott, AZ.
July 3: Containment is expected by July 12. About 600 people are working this fire.
July 4: Peeples Valley residents may return to their homes this evening.
July 8: Yarnell residents are cleared to return to their homes.
July 11: on July 10th, funerals took place for several of the Granite Mountain Hotshots. Approximately 500 people visited the Memorial Boards.
