Tips To Boost Your Confidence After Setbacks

One of the most stressing aspects of life is setbacks.
Setbacks are an event or series of events that can cause significant stress and experienced as a powerful blow to a person's level of confidence.
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, confidence is defined as a feeling or consciousness of one's powers or of reliance on one's circumstance.
Simply put, confidence is a belief in own abilities.
Setbacks can seriously affect a person's level of confidence and reduce their belief in their own abilities.
If you have suffered a setback or a series of setbacks, following are some tips to boost your confidence.
1) Accept your setback.
It is important to honestly accept your setback has happened or in process of happening.
The goal is not lamenting over the "whys" of the setback and who is to blame.
If you are responsible for the setback, remember to prevent it from happening again in the future.
If the setback is not your responsibility, do not become entrenched in trying to figure out why it happened to you.
Accept the setback and move on.
2) Use a common therapy technique recommended to clients who visit therapists.
It is called "Stop, Think, Decide, Act, and Feel.
" This is a cognitive technique used to help people focus on their thinking patterns and how to change them.
Memorize this technique, say it to yourself often, and apply it to actions you may take generated by the setback.
3) Spend some time and money on self-image improvement.
Whatever you typically do to help feel better about your image, be sure to allocate some time and a little money to get it done.
Even more importantly, do something that you have always wanted to do that will help you feel more attractive.
Anything you can do about improving your self-image will help you feel more confident.
4) Write a goodbye letter to your setback.
This may sound silly, but sitting down writing a letter to say goodbye to your setback will help to move on from the impact the setback has caused them.
Once you have written this letter, you can share it with a friend or simply save it to read down the road to reflect on your past trials and tribulations.
This simple technique by writing your thoughts down helps to gain perspective.
5) Set a new goal.
Whether the goal is small or large, set yourself a new goal and make sure to complete that goal.
People always become more confident when they complete goals.
One you have attained this goal, it is important to tell loved ones about what you have achieved.
Remember, these goals can be small or big and helps you to feel you have control in your life.
6) Seek support from three close friends, loved ones, or colleagues.
Whomever you choose, pick three people you can spend a little time with telling them about your setback and how it makes you feel.
Speaking with people who care and respect you will help to change your perception about your belief that you can succeed.
Speaking to them is not for sympathy, but for perspective.
7) Volunteer you time.
Whether you volunteer 1 or 20 hours weekly, volunteer your time giving back to the community.
The positive response you will get from others will indirectly help you feel more confident.
Volunteering your time helps you to focus on other activities and fosters a sense of giving back.
Volunteering 1 hour a week of your time at a local animal shelter to socialize the dogs and cats will help you to feel better about yourself.
There are hundreds of ways to donate your time.
8) Reinvest yourself in spirituality.
All of us are spiritual in some way.
Some are religious and some believe spirituality is practiced by actions.
Whatever your beliefs are, actively think and practice what you believe falls into your interpretation of what it means to be spiritual.
The key for this tip is to actually engage in this activity and make a commitment to doing it regularly.
9) Study current information on boosting confidence.
Spend a minimum of 1 hour weekly online or reading about ways to boost your confidence and self-esteem.
People often become enveloped by their setbacks and do little to work on ways to reinvigorate their life and how to become more confident.
Open your search engine or visit the library to read about ways to boost confidence.
10) Increase any activity you will experience as being funny or humorous.
Whether you enjoy comedy or talking with friends about funny past memories, spend time focused on activities that will help you experience the humor of life.
The old saying that laughter is the best medicine really is a great suggestion.
Laughter and participating in activities that will help you experience the funny aspects of your and others life works to change your perception of how life is filled with setbacks and tribulations.
