From the moment somebody sees you in an interview room they are making assumptions about you, you've heard it before but first impressions count, if you make a bad impression kiss goodbye the job and any possible invitation back.
The way you dress, groom your self, your whole body is on show, in less than ten seconds a first impression is set. Before entering the building relax you muscles, have a quick shake down, open your hands and roll your shoulders, this will create a mental state to work on.
* Relieve yourself of any unnecessary things.
* Enter the reception area with confidence remind yourself that this space is yours and you have a right to be here.
* Remain standing even if given an invitation to sit.
* Enter the interview room with confidence walk smoothly, place
your items on the desk shake hands and sit down your showing that you are ok with coming into somebody else's territory.
* The hand shake should be done so that you are not restricted and not but in a subservient position. Shake hands with your arm out and return the same amount of pressure at the interviewer.
* Include the name of the interviewer in your remarks twice within the first 30 seconds of having introduced yourself.
* Speak for no longer than 20-30 second, at any one time.
* Keep at a 45 degree angle from the interviewer. Move the chair if you have to. This creates openness and trust.
* If the seat is to low lean on the edge with your back straight unless you risk looking like a child ready to be reprimanded.
* Sit close enough to the interviewer to create familiarity.
* Sit closer to an interviewer who is of a similar age.
* Sit further away if that person is significantly older.
* When it is time to exit, move calmly, smile and shakes hands. Leave the room ensuring that the last thing the interviewer sees is your face, and leave the door in the position you found it.
Serious questions require serious answers and of course a serious posture
* Close your mouth and breath through your nose.
* Hold your head vertically as if your chin was resting on a lake.
* Square your hips and shoulders with your knees.
* Keep ankles directly over your ankles, with your feet planted on the ground.
* Open your chest.
* Look the interviewer in the eye.
* Pause.
* Answer.
