- Trojan malscript viruses are known as impostor viruses due to the fact that the user typically downloads a program that appears to serve a desirable function, but in actuality the file is an impostor that allows an attacker to gain unauthorized access on the computer system.
- Once a trojan malscript virus is unknowingly installed on a computer, an attacker is able to access the entire system from a remote location.
- Systems that have been compromised with a trojan malscript virus will experience altered desktop settings, modified or deleted files, missing desktop icons, uninitiated shutdowns, pop-up pornographic advertisements and corrupted system files.
- Novice computer users may have a difficult time removing the trojan manually. To simplify the process, there are a variety of antivirus software programs, including McAfee, Symantec and AVG (see Resources).
