The 1986 Ford F-150 is part of a Ford legacy. The full-sized F-Series pickup trucks have been sold for more than 60 years, with the most popular being the F-150. The Ford F-150 was the best-selling vehicle in the US for 24 years, and best-selling truck for 34 years, according to Ford. There are more F-Series trucks on the road with more than 250,000 miles than any other brand. - Ford offered one five-liter V8 engine for the 1986 Ford F-150, the fuel-injected Windsor V-8, but also offered diesel and six-cylinder engines. According to Car Gurus, the high-powered engine made the F-150 a "workhorse of a pickup, and there are plenty of these durable beauties still on the streets today." The average price of the 1986 F-150s listed with Lemon Free is approximately $3,000, with an average 150,000 miles.
- The 1986 Ford F-150 came in XL, XLT and XLT Lariat trims, with either extended-cab, four-door supercab with a six-foot truck bed, or two-door cabs. Ford also offered extended-bed models, prized for farm use. Off-roaders coveted the short-bed edition for its versatility and four-wheel capability.
There was also a special edition Plow Series Ford F-150 to handle a snow plow, a dump bed, stepside and a gauge cluster. The truck came standard with front bench seats. - Ford offered a towing package for the 1986 Ford F-150, as well a quad front suspension, steel wheels, tilt steering wheel, cloth and vinyl upholstery, air conditioning, map lights, and dual tanks. Ford also offered a transmission with overdrive, four-wheel and rear-wheel drive, power doors, power steering, power brakes and an AM/FM cassette player.
