- 1). Create a folder for the shared software. In Windows Vista, click "Start." Click "Computer." Double-click your server. Right-click inside the window and click "New." Select "Folder." Create a name for the folder. This could look like, "\\server\share\softwarex." You should avoid installing any shared software on the root of the server, so always make a new folder for new software.
- 2). Open the installation program for your software. Place the installation CD into the drive. Either allow auto-run to complete or select the drive from "Computer" and open "Setup.exe." Once prompted to enter the location of the installation, choose the shared folder you have created. Hit "Install" to install the software to this destination.
- 3). Test the software. On a network computer, open the shared network folder. Double-click the executable file to open the software.
