- 1). Determine your eligibility. Applicants must be a medical student or graduate of a program accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or American Osteopathic Association. Foreign medical students and graduates are also eligible to take the USMLE if they meet the criteria set forth by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.
- 2). Contact the appropriate registration office to obtain your application. If you are a medical student or graduate of one of the accredited programs, you must contact the National Board of Medical Examiners for your Application. If you are a foreign medical student or graduate you must contact the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.
- 3). Fill out your application completely and submit to the appropriate registration office.
- 4). Get your scheduling permit from the registration office. The scheduling permit is issued after your application has been processed. It contains your name, exam you are registered to take, eligibility period, testing region, Scheduling Number and your Candidate Identification Number.
- 5). Contact Prometric to schedule your test. Tests are schedule on a first-come, first-serve basis, so you should schedule your test as soon as you receive your scheduling permit.
