Online Social Networking - Are You Attracting Or Repelling People?

We all know that online social networks are becoming amazingly popular on the internet.
They are great places to meet and connect with people.
In this article I am going to discuss some of the things you should and should not do when you are networking on these places to make sure you attract people to you instead of repelling them.
There are millions of people visiting these social networks every day, some times many times a day.
If you are a business owner you need to go to these places as well, because you need to be where the people are if you are to sell your products and services.
If in case you are not on any the social networks, I highly recommend that you sign up for them.
For example Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace...
etc.
If you are a Network Marketer these are great places for you to build a great networks of warm prospects.
However, once you go to these networks you need to be social, because these places are like parties.
People do not go to parties to get sold on products, services or business opportunities.
Here are a few tips that will help you Attract people to you;
  1. Have the correct mindset when you are networking on social networking sites.
    You are there to build relationships with people.
    Therefore spend 80-90% of the time socially networking with people, share valuable quotes, content that may help others, news items that will provide value to your target audience.
    May be 10-20% of the time you can promote a product or service.
  2. Your profile: Make sure to upload your photo not your product.
    People want to network with people not with companies.
    Write about you in few sentences and provide a place for the people to find out more about you.
    This could be to your blog and websites.
    List all your interests, web sites and let the others know who you are.
    If the friends that you network with want to know more about you and what you do, let them come to you.
  3. Welcome new friends by sending a small message or even a video if possible.
    Make them feel welcome to your network.
  4. Connect with others by sending direct messages, sharing valuable content, tagging them on photos, comment on their posts, profiles other information they share.
  5. Have a look at their profiles; look to see whether you have anything in common to start a conversation.
  6. Do not pitch on your business opportunity - This will repel your friends from you.
    You have to earn the right to do that, so if you start your conversation with your business I am afraid but majority of people will not like it.
  7. If you are tagging people on notes, make sure they have something to do with your content.
    If you just tag a bunch of people you are spamming.
Online Social Networking is a great way to get in front of a massive amount of people and if you approach it correctly you will attract great people to you.
This will result in business partners, clients, joint venture partners and good friends.
However this is not going to be an overnight process.
Work on this area consistently and you will definitely reap the rewards.
