- 1). Remove the tuning fork from its holder or case.
- 2). Grasp the tuning fork by the very end of the handle that extends below the "U" shape. Hold the tuning fork handle firmly between your thumb and index finger. Do not use a loose grip or the tuning could fly out of your hand when you attempt to use it.
- 3). Hit the side of the "U" shape against your knee (the bone). Keep your elbow bent, and tap your knee quickly and sharply so the tuning fork begins to resonate. You should notice a humming noise.
- 4). Place the tuning fork across the body or bridge of the guitar. Tune the first string until it matches the pitch emanating from the tuning fork. You can tune the rest of the guitar strings to the first string once its pitch matches that of the tuning fork.
