- 1). Sweep the floor.
- 2). Sand wood floors using a belt sander and 120-grit sandpaper.
- 3). Wash wood or tile floors with a trisodium phosphate cleanser, and clean concrete floors with a muriatic acid cleanser.
- 4). Mark the corners of your geometric shapes using a tape measure, protractor and pencil. Don't bother tracing the entire shape freehand, as your line will invariably be wobbly. Just mark the edges.
- 5). Place a straightedge between your corner points and use the pencil to draw a straight line against the straightedge. A long, straight piece of scrap lumber works well for outlining straight edges on large geometric shapes.
- 6). Stick painter's tape over the pencil lines to outline the geometric shapes. At this time, you can also protect trim or other objects with the painter's tape.
- 7). Prime the floor surface using a paint roller. Use stain-blocking primer for wood floors, bonding primer on tile and elastomeric primer on concrete. Wait for the primer to dry before proceeding.
- 8). Paint the floor using epoxy paint and a roller brush. Wait for the first coat to dry and apply a second coat if needed.
- 9). Remove the painter's tape after the final coat dries.
