- 1). Use the measuring tape to collect all of the required measurements for cabinet making. This includes the height of the overall cabinet, the depth and the width. If you are building cabinets around appliances, allow at least an inch of space between the cabinet's side and the appliance for ventilation, so subtract this space in your original measurements.
- 2). Lay the five plywood sheets down on the floor. Grab the pencil and the measuring tape. Start drawing the panels for the cabinets directly on the plywood sheets. Draw a back panel. Measure the total height by the total width, minus 1 full inch to make room for the side pieces during assembly. Use the depth and height to draw two identical side panels. In addition, draw one bottom panel, measuring the depth by width. Lastly, draw the cabinet door, measuring the height by the width. This door will overlap the side panels.
- 3). Cut the cabinet panels one at a time, using the circular saw. If you do not have a circular saw, a table saw is also acceptable. Avoid using a manual saw because you may cause more cracks and splinters in the plywood, resulting in cracked and broken cabinet panels. Follow the pencil line cautiously, so you get accurate panel cuts.
- 4). Sand all edges with the medium-grit sandpaper. Do not sand them continuously because it will alter the cut of the wood. Simply rub the sandpaper on the panels a few times to remove any potential splinters and smooth the surface. You have now cut the panels for your cabinet.
