- 1). Design and print large flyers for your dart league. Include the anticipated start date of your league, the cost of entry, how teams can enter and prize information (whether it is cash or a trophy.) Ask bar and sports club owners' permission to put your flyers up on their notice boards and walls to attract interest.
- 2). Record the names of teams entering your league on a spreadsheet. Include a column indicating whether or not they have paid their entry fee, as it is crucial you stay on top of financial matters. You may also record where teams will play their home dart matches, but, for many teams, the venue may vary.
- 3). Set up an online presence for your dart league and send a link out to each of the team captains. Post the match schedule on this website, social network or email mailing list, and ask captains to inform you of any matches their team is not available to play. Work out a system for penalizing teams that fail to notify you and their opponents when they cannot play a match. For example, if Team A fails to notify Team B that they can't play a match less than two days before the scheduled match time, Team B is awarded an 8 to 0 walkover win.
- 4). Post the match rules on your league's website or social networking page. Standard pub and bar dart matches are usually played between two teams of eight, who are ranked from one to eight. For example, player one from Team A plays player one from Team B. Matches played between two players are called sets and a set consists of the best of three 501 legs. If player A wins the first two legs from 501, he wins the set, and his team takes a 1 to 0 lead in the match. Inform captains that, even when an unassailable lead is taken in a match, such as Team A leading 5 to 0, all eight sets must be played to provide a complete result, such as 6 to 2. Instruct captains that points are scored in the following manner: three for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss.
- 5). Start your league season with the opening round of matches to be played. Inform captains that they should email you with the match result, including the score, within a day of concluding their matches. Record match scores in a spreadsheet and publicize match results and league standings online.
- 6). Arrange an end-of-season party once all of the league matches have been played. Inform captains that the party will be held at either a neutral venue or at the home dart venue of the league champions. Hold a prize-giving ceremony at this event, including handing out any trophies or cash prizes.
