How to Extend a B1 Visa

    Instructions

    • 1). Go to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services web site at www.uscis.gov and download Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Non-Immigrant Status and the instructions for completing the form.

    • 2). Read the instructions and complete pages 1 through 4, attaching any explanatory information on a separate sheet of paper.

    • 3). Complete and attach page 5 if the Application is for more than one person (such as a spouse or any unmarried children under age 21). Be sure to also attach your original I-94 and that of each additional person.

    • 4). Obtain a money order or check for the $300 filing fee. Note that the money order or check must be drawn on a U.S. bank for U.S. currency.

    • 5). Mail your application and fee to the center servicing the state you live in:

      Use the USCIS California Service Center, P. O. Box 10539, Laguna Niguel, CA 92607-1053, if you live in Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin or Wyoming.

      Use the USCIS Vermont Service Center, ATTN: I-539, 75 Lower Welden Street, St. Albans, VT 05479, if you are located in Alabama, Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, U.S. Virgin Islands West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

      Alternatively, file your application and pay the fee online at www.uscis.gov for faster confirmation of receipt.

    • 6). Use the number on the receipt at the website to track your application and the processing time. If you have mailed your application, you will receive the receipt by mail.
