- 1). Pick out a spot for the garden. The spot should be about 25 to 30 feet. A smaller garden is more befitting to beginners. You also want to choose a location that has decent drainage (not too wet or too dry). Sun light is another thing to consider when picking a location. You also want to plant in a spot that has the best soil.
- 2). Choose flowers for your garden. Pick flowers that will survive the climate you live in. You should also pick flowers that require the same type of care. You can choose to plant potted flowers or flower seeds.
- 3). Prepare the soil. This might get a little messy, so you should put on the garden gloves at this point. Using the spade or garden fork, loosen the soil, digging at least 6 to 8 inches deep. Make sure you remove large stones. Add the fertilizer and mix it in.
- 4). Plant the flowers. Dig a hole approximately six inches deep, bigger if you are transplanting a larger flower. Pack soil tightly around your plant .
- 5). Water the plants accordingly. Take into consideration the weather. If it is rainy then you obviously do not need to add more water. Make sure you do not give the flowers too much water.
