Are Syphilis Sores Painful?

Syphilis sores are usually the first sign of this sexually transmitted disease.
They usually appear in an average of 21 days but may take as long as 90 to be obvious.
Usually at the onset, they are not painful and may go unnoticed for quite some time.
The painless syphilis sores are called chancre.
They are usually present in the area that came in contact with the bacteria.
Commonly, they are found in the genital area, the anus or in or around the mouth.
The genital area is the most common since syphilis is transmitted by sexual contact.
If you find that you have sores or a rash in the genital area and you suspect that you have come in contact with someone who had syphilis see a doctor immediately.
Syphilis can also appear as blisters or painless bumps.
Syphilis sores are the first stage of this disease.
However, even though there are no sores present, you may still be contagious.
After the doctor confirms the presence of syphilis you and anyone you have had sexual relations with will need to be tested and treated.
Syphilis is easily treatable with antibiotics.
Only a doctor can give you the medication that will effectively treat this condition.
If left untreated it can eventually cause damage to many other areas of the body including blindness, nervous or mental disorders and eventually death.
The doctor can diagnose syphilis by observing the syphilis sores and affected area.
They can also perform a blood test to confirm that you have syphilis.
Open sores make the likelihood of HIV more prevalent so they may also check you for HIV.
To avoid syphilis and syphilis sores limit the number of sexual partners you have.
Be careful about who you have sex with casually.
Always use a condom.
Make sure that it is still within its expiration date and that it was made in the United States.
The US has much more strict safety guidelines that are enacted and enforced.
Therefore they are much more effective than condoms made elsewhere.
Remember to store condoms in the unopened original wrapper.
There are also condoms for women.
Use available condoms to protect yourself from getting syphilis.
Protect yourself from getting syphilis sores by practicing safe sex habits.
If you suspect that you have contracted syphilis see your doctor as soon as possible.
