- 1). Open Ubuntu. Click "System," "Administration" and "Synaptic Package Manager."
- 2). Type "Sound Converter" in the "Quick Search" box on the "Synaptic Package Manager" window. A list of search results will appear; sort the list by clicking the "Package" header. Click the check box to the left of "soundconverter." Click "Mark for Installation" and click "Mark."
- 3). Type "gstreamer" in the "Quick Search" box. Sort the search results by clicking the "Package" header. Click the check box to the left of "gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse." (The number in the file name is a version number; if that number is different, that is okay). Click "Mark for Installation," then "Mark."
- 4). Click the "Apply" button near the top of the screen. "Synaptic Package Manager" will install both "Sound Converter" and the required plugin.
- 5). Close "Synaptic Package Manager" and run "Sound Converter." Click "Add File" near the top of the page. Find the file in the dialogue box that appears and click "Open."
- 6). Click "Edit," then click "Preferences." Under "Type of Result?" in the "Format" menu, choose "WAV" and click "Close."
- 7). Click the "Convert" button at the top of the window. When the conversion process is complete, close the "Sound Converter." Your WAV file will be waiting for you in the folder you selected.
