How to Build an Outdoor Fire Bowl

    • 1). Place the ceramic or porcelain planter where you want your fire pit to be displayed. The planter needs to be aesthetically pleasing because it will be the exterior of your fire pit. Porcelain and ceramic planters are recommended for their ability to handle high heat. The planter also needs to be large enough for the mini barbecue to fit inside completely.

    • 2). Remove the lid and grill from your mini barbecue, then disassemble the legs. Measure the height difference between the top of the planter and the top of the mini barbecue. You are using a barbecue to hold the fire because barbecues are made tough enough to contain fire. This fire pit will outlast many of the fire bowls on the market. Because they use inferior materials to contain the fire, they will eventually wear out.

    • 3). Fill the planter with decorative rocks to the difference in height between the planter and the barbecue and set the barbecue inside the planter. The barbecue should just reach the the top of the planter. If the barbecue is too low, remove it from the planter and add rocks until the height is right. If the barbecue is too high, remove rocks from underneath the barbecue until the height is right. Make sure your decorative rocks have a high heat tolerance.

    • 4). Fill the rest of the planter around the barbecue in with decorative rocks until the barbecue is securely tucked in. Remove any rocks that may be in danger of falling into the barbecue bowl.
